Mayor’s congrats for local company
MAYOR OF Wexford, Cllr Tony Dempsey has praised two employees of Sulzer Pumps (formerly ABS Pumps) for their work on pumps that were used as part of the Thai cave rescue last week.
Cllr Dempsey congratulated Paul O’Dowd and Noel Dempsey for making the specialised pumps, which are supplied to many de-watering applications, and which were used to pump out millions of gallons of water in the rescue of the 12 school boys and their coach from the caves in North Thailand.
Speaking after the rescue, Cllr Dempsey congratulated the two men and the company which, he said, had been a very good employer in the town, both as Sulzer and as ABS Pumps before that.
‘I think what this has shown is how a company in a relatively small town can break into the world market as a result of specialised expertise and I think we need to put more focus on such specialised work. To think that a pump designed and made in Wexford can be a contributing factor to that kind of success story is remarkable, and I am delighted to recognise the great work of the company and the local employees involved.’
