Ramsgrange Men’s Shed group carve out new hobby
RAMSGRANGE Men’s Shed members have completed a wood working course, creating three individually designed benches and animals and Celtic Knots, guided by talented local craftsmen.
With funding made available from Waterford Wexford Education and Training Board ( WWETB) and from Wexford Local Community Development Committee and Wexford County Council ‘ The Shed’ in Ramsgrange now has a well equipped workshop.
Members built three woodworking beaches at The Bevel Woodworking School near Fethard–on-Sea under the direction of the skilful and patient Tommy Kelly. Tools and equipment were purchased from the funding made available. The members organised a Woodcarving Workshop thanks to funding from WWETB, this followed from a visit from Sarah Lavan, their Community Education facilitator. The course was overseen by Tommy Kelly of the Bevel Woodworking School.
The members of ‘ The Shed’ had great fun completing the wood carving of animals and Celtic Knots.
Group Secretary Tom Connery said new members are always welcome and can be assured that there is something of interest for everyone as the men have ownership of the projects and decide their own programme of events.
‘Ramsgrange Men’s Shed is a dedicated, friendly and welcoming meeting place where men come together and undertake a variety of mutually agreed activities. It is a place where you can develop new friendships; sit down and have a chat with a cup of tea, share your skills and knowledge with others, learn new skills and redevelop some old skills.’
Ramsgrange Men’s Shed was founded in 2017 and were initially based in the SWWFRC building. They are now in a building rented from WWETB at the Shielbagan Outdoor Education Centre.
Another Woodcarving Workshop will be held later in the month and it is hoped new members will come along to share in the experience.
