FIELD DAY

St Mogue’s Coiste na nÓg will host their annual family fun field day on August Bank Holiday, Sunday the fifth in the GAA pitch in Ramstown from 1 p.m. There will all the usual fun games and stalls and our under-sevens, under-ninesand under-11s will begin the day’s activities at 1 p.m. with mini hurling games and shortly after will be the annual Tug O’War competitio­n with Charlie’s ‘Angels’ reportedly gunning to wrestle their title back from last year’s winners from Conna.

The Golden Oldies will provide entertainm­ent throughout the day and there will loads of prizes to be won from the various stalls, games and raffles.

Refreshmen­ts and food will be available all afternoon with delicious barbecue burgers and hotdogs, pancakes, tea or coffee/ soft drinks and confection­ery.

This is the club’s underage section’s (catering for our youths from four to 17 years) main fundraiser for the year and all support is greatly appreciate­d on the day.

BARN DANCE

Fethard St Mogue’s GAA Club are holding a barn dance on Sunday, August 5, in Nunan’s Farm on the Ralph Road. Music by the Sinarios from 9 p.m. followed by Divine Invention. Tickets cost €10 are available from club members.

HOOK LIGHTHOUSE TALKS

The Wisdom of Wildflower­s and Seeds is the first of a series of talks at the Hook Lighthouse on next Thursday evening, July 19. Rememberin­g the healing power of our native herbs, Diane Fletcher Jones will introduce the audience to healing plants that grow around us with both nutritiona­l and health giving benefits. Following the success of the 2017 series, this year there are four talks over the next four Thursdays with the following three featuring Camilla Tunney on Clean Coasts, Brian Matthew rememberin­g the Mills of New Ross and the Hook, and Kevin McCormick looking at the importance of whales and dolphins. Each talk starts at 8 p.m. with refreshmen­ts served from 7.30. Bookings at 051 397005 or HookHerita­ge.ie.

DRAG RACE

The second annual Fethard Drag Race looks set to be an even bigger success than last year’s inaugural event with entries already exceeding last year’s total. This fun event is more of a parade than a race, covering a distance of just four kilometres and features a ‘secret shortcut’ for those who want to take it, cutting the distance in half. Promoted as a fundraiser for the Helen Blake Lifeboat Project, the event is and is open to anybody who just wants to have fun. There is no entry fee, you just need to register by emailing dragracefe­thard@outlook.com and there will be fun prizes for first home, last home, best drag king and queen and much more. Start time is 11 a.m. from the monument in the village, and if you can’t ride, come along and watch. With it taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 6, at the height of the holiday season the organisers are expecting an even larger crowd of onlookers this year.

PARISH PATRONS

The patron will take place on August 3 at 7.30p. in Poulfur with blessing of the graves following Mass.

GRANGEVILL­E TEA ROOMS

Grangevill­e Tea Rooms has reopened every Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. Tea and coffee served in fine china cups and saucers. Tasty home bakes, large kids’ play area and full bar.

COUNTRY MARKET

Now in our 22nd year. Every Saturday in St Mary’s Hall, Fethard-on-Sea, 10.30 a.m. to midday.

WEEKLY LOTTO €6,200

There was no winner of last week’s club lotto jackpot of €6,100 so next week’s jackpot stands at €6,200. The numbers drawn were 2, 7, 15 and 32. The club had two lucky-dip winners, Deirdre Ryan and John Rice, who won €30 each.

PROGRESSIV­E 45

The winners of the Progressiv­e 45 Card Game in Colclough Hall last Sunday night were Dave Walsh and Liam Power. There was a three-way tie for second place between Pat Whelan, Maureen Eustace and Joan Fardy and Billy Shannon, Liam Coole and Tony Murphy and Johnnie Doyle, Tom Culleton and John Reville. The last game draw was won by Kathleen Cadogan and Stasia Finn. The raffle winners were Michael Kehoe, Nicholas Doyle, James McDonald and Tom Culleton.

FETHARD SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to Laura Whelan, who won €77 in the split-the-pot (July 10). Envelopes for split-the-pot are available in the post office, Dillon’s, The Wheelhouse, Droopy’s, Molloy’s, Neville’s and the Tourist Office. Draw takes place every Tuesday.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to Darren O’Grady, who was Saltmills and St Kearns Community Groups split-the-pot winner of €129 for April. Envelopes are available to purchase in Vine Cottage, Whelan’s Chipper and Fish Shop and shop in St Leonards. Next draw will take place on May 28.

THE BLUEBELL CAFÉ

The Bluebell Café takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in ‘The Tea Room’ at St Louis Day Care Centre, Ramsgrange, New Ross. The Bluebell Café is open to people with dementia, their partners, carers, families and friends. TEENAGE DISCO

There will be a teenage disco in Campile Hall on this coming Friday night, July 27, for all secondary school students and anyone starting first year in September are welcome to attend from nine to 12 doors open 8 p.m. strictly no alcohol or drugs allowed. This is a fully supervised event.
