Rathnure reign in sevens final

Conn Mernagh featured again as he gave a slick flick of the sliothar to Eoin who rattled the net with an excellent shot.

Rathnure’s Shane Reddy saw his opportunit­y and went straight for goal, putting his side back in the lead.

Mernagh pointed another in response to keep his side in the contest, with aid from Adam Connick and the other Murrintown backs.

The sides were level at half-time and, while Murrintown wasted no time in trying to get ahead in the opening minutes of the second period, their efforts were denied by Rathnure’s Dennis Lambert.

Conn Mernagh pointed another for his side but Shane Reddy and Tomás Guiney started their goal spree, getting one each.

Murrintown’s Cian O’Dowd responded with a goal but it was followed by another by Shane Reddy.

The final whistle followed and Rathnure were worthy winners on a scoreline of 5-1 to 2-4.

The cup was presented to Rathnure’s captain by the Rackard League Chairman, Kevin Waters.
