COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to our footballers who carried on a great parish tradition in some style claiming the Kilkenny Intermediate Football Final at a breezy Thomastown on Saturday last. Carrying the tag of underdogs the Tullogher-Rosbercon Intermediate Football team defied the pundits when capturing the Kilkenny title with a resounding victory over Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) on a score line of 2-10 to 0-7.

Playing a fast exciting brand of football, rarely seen in Kilkenny, they proved themselves to be worthy champions especially with a brilliant second half display. The scores were level on three occasions during the opening period and a brilliant save by Eoin Ryan in the Tullogher goal was vital as his team swept down the field and scored a great point to lead 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval.

In the second period the defence was rock solid and the forwards clipped in another 2-3 to leave the final scores as stated with Erin’s Own only score coming in the 55th minute.

The team and marksmen were as follows, E Ryan, T Croke, D Grennan, S Murphy, B Ryan, P Hartley, K Hennessy, D O’Connor (0-1), J Shiely (1-1), H O’Connor, W Walsh (0-1), S Ryan (0-1), C Hennessy (1-1), C O’Donoghue (0-4) and B Lawlor (0-1). They now take a step up into senior grade where Tullogher last won that title way back in 1962.
