MUSIC DEBUT BY QUAY TRIO
CLASSICAL music should be fun for everyone, says violinist Maria-Noelle Creevey, co-founder of new classical music group The Quay Trio, which she is bringing to her native Kilmore before launching nationwide.
Maria has teamed up with pianist and violinist William Cullagh and Hungarian violinist Istvan Barnacz to present the debut public concert of The Quay Trio at St Peter’s Church, Kilmore Quay, on Sunday, August 19, at 4 p.m.
They will perform music from Phantom of the Opera and from Westside Story, traditional Irish airs, and virtuoso classics including Monti’s Czardas, Massanet’s Meditation and Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. Istvan will perform Bach’s D Minor Chaconne.
Maria-Noelle is from the musical Creevey family of Kilmore and an honours music graduate of Maynooth University. She was leader of the County Kildare Orchestra, Maynooth University Orchestra and also Maynooth University String Ensemble. She was part of a string masterclass with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
She is an orchestral player with the Royal Irish Academy of Music Philharmonia orchestra, Co- Orch Dublin and Dublin Symphony Orchestra.
She teaches violin with the Academy of Music, Tullamore and mentors the Midlands Youth Orchestra and is resident professional violinist for Cistercian College, Roscrea, and Nenagh Choral Society productions.
William Cullagh, a pianist and musical director from Thurles, is head of music at Cistercian College, Roscrea. He is a graduate of Maynooth University in music and mathematics. He is also a Trinity College, Dublin, graduate in education.
Istvan Barnacz, a violinist, is from Hungary. He is a winner of Hungarian national and international competitions. He has toured as a soloist around Europe, Russia, Ukraine and China.
He was a violinist with the Wexford Festival Opera orchestra in 2010 and 2011. He currently works with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
