Blaithin takes a bite of Big Apple
A Gorey-based jewellery designer has been selected as one of seven to participate in the major US trade fair ‘NY NOW’.
Blaithin Ennis, a newcomer to NY NOW, is regarded as one of the best jewellery designers on the Irish fashion scene. From her studio in Gorey, she creates pieces that are affordable and beautifully designed, incorporating simple, traditional and craft driven techniques inspired by her natural surroundings in coastal Ireland.
‘I’m very excited to attend my first tradeshow in the US,’ said Blaithin. ‘It’s a privilege to have been selected by the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland to represent Irish design with inimitable Irish brands such as Foxford and Slated.’
While this will be Blaithin’s debut at the trade fair in New York, she is no stranger to the city having been one of the winners of the prestigious Wearing Irish Awards which took place this year.
‘I attended the inaugural Wearing Irish event at Grand Central Tower with Bank of Ireland start labs and founder Margaret Molloy,’ said Blaithin. ‘I was chosen as one of 10 Irish designers from over 150 applicants. The event was an invaluable experience.’
Blaithin said she is delighted to be back in the city where she once interned with Diane Von Furstenberg. ‘It’s a dream come true representing my own brand,’ added Blaithin.
NY NOW takes place at Jacob K Convention Centre until Wednesday, August 15. It will give the seven Irish designers the opportunity to meet with exiting customers and establish further relationships with discerning trade buyers and key press.
