TRI THE HOOK

On Saturday, August 18, Fethard-on-Sea will play host to the eighth consecutiv­e Tri the Hook Sprint Triathlon. The race kicks off at 10 a.m. with a 750m swim at Baginbun beach, followed by a 22km cycle and finishing with a 5km run to St Mogue’s GAA Clubhouse. More than 250 competitor­s are expected to take part this year including members of some of the country’s top triathlon clubs. For anyone interested in getting involved in this event we are looking for volunteer marshals. Please contact the Hook Tourism Office at 051 389530 if you have any queries.

ROUNDERS

St Mogue’s Ladies’ Club are looking to start a group that would like to play Rounders. It is a great game where ladies of all ages can play together. It can be great fun and a great way to make new friends. If you are interested in taking part contact Elaine Dunne 085 8834108 or Louis Foley 087 6410858.

MID SUMMER BAZAAR

St Mogue’s Church would like to thank most sincerely all who contribute­d to and supported in any way towards our very successful recent fundraiser.

BARN DANCE

The whole area of Fethard rocked to the sound of the the Sinarios and Divine Invention at the Fethard St Mogue’s barn dance on the Bank Holiday weekend. The hundreds who attended enjoyed a great night of entertainm­ent and are looking forward to next year’s event already.

The club would like to thank the following people for helping us to set up the venue: The Nunan family, Tommy O’Loughlin and SEF, Alan Molloy, Seanie Colfer constructi­on, Tony Kehoe, Droopys Bar, Peter O’Loughlin, John Nolan Electrical and Geminii Hair Salon. Also, thanks to all the volunteers who helped out on the night. Thank you to everyone who attended or supported in any way, we hope ye all had a great night.

FIELD DAY – THANKS

St Mogue’s Coiste na nÓg wish to thank everyone who supported our annual family field day fundraiser yesterday. Held under beautiful sunshine, a great atmosphere was generated by the large crowd in attendance with great fun had from 1 p.m. till late afternoon. Big thanks to all who were involved in organising, all who helped out with various jobs/ stalls during the event, all local businesses and individual­s who contribute­d donations and prizes and of course all who attended to support.

COUNTRY MARKET

Now in our 22nd year, market continues every Saturday in St Mary’s Hall, Fethard-on-Sea from 10.30 a.m. to midday supplying fresh vegetables, salad, herbs, plants, baking, chocolates, crafts, jewellery, prints and more.

WEEKLY LOTTO

There was no winner of last week’s Club lotto jackpot of €6,400 so next week’s jackpot stands at €6,500. The numbers drawn were 6, 10, 27 and 32.

FETHARD ST MOGUE’S GAA

The intermedia­te hurlers played Blackwater in their third group game last Tuesday in St Patrick’s Park. In an evenly contested game the sides were level at half time. Fethard had moved five points clear before Blackwater were dealt a blow when reduced to 14 men midway through the second half. However, this seemed to inspire them and they had reduced the lead to a point before Mikie Dwyer soloed through for a goal with five minutes to go. Graham O’Grady closed out the scoring with his fourteenth point from frees as they won 1-20 to 1-17.

The senior footballer­s played Sarsfields in New Ross last Sunday, full report in next week’s paper. They play Castletown in Bellefield next Saturday at 7 p.m.

Junior B footballer­s play Taghmon in the District semi-final next Saturday also. The junior B hurlers play GOH in district semi-final on Friday the 24th.

MASS ROCK

Saltmills St Kearns Community Group invite you to celebrate Mass at the Mass Rock on Saltmills Bridge on August 24 at 6.30 p.m. This will be followed by a blessing of the Boats at 7 p.m. All Boat owners welcome to participat­e in this Heritage evening.

CREATIVE EXCHANGE GROUP

The Creative Exchange Group from Saltmills St Kearns is planning a trip to Kilkenny City on Friday, August 24, Leaving the Vine Cottage Bar at 09.15 and first stop is in beautiful Inistoige for morning coffee.

Carrying on then to a Guided tour of Rothe House and Gardens (€7). Lunch in Ormond Hotel at own expense. Visit to the National Design and Craft Gallery (admission free). Two hours to explore heritage sites in city. Depart Kilkenny at 17.00. SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to Kevin Murphy Jnr, who was Saltmills and St Kearns Community Groups split-the-pot winner of €189 for July. Envelopes are available to purchase in Vine Cottage, Whelan’s Chipper and Fish Shop, Whites Nurseries and shop in St Leonards. Next draw will take place on August 26.

FETHARD SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to Sprocket Power, who won €117 in this week’s split-the-pot (July 24). Envelopes for split-the-pot are available in the post office, Dillon’s, The Wheelhouse, Droopy’s, Molloy’s, Neville’s and the Tourist Office. Draw takes place every Tuesday.

THE BLUEBELL CAFÉ

The Bluebell Café takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in ‘The Tea Room’ at St Louis Day Care Centre, Ramsgrange. The Bluebell Café is open to people with dementia, their partners, carers, families and friends. You have an opportunit­y to meet others with similar experience­s, enjoy a cup of tea and a chat and speak with health and social care profession­als and other experience­d volunteers. DRAG RACE – THANK YOU

The second annual Drag Race took place in Fethard-on-Sea on Bank Holiday Monday. A large crowd turned out to watch the fun cycle ride with 26 drag kings and queens participat­ing.

Members of Helen Blake Community Group would like to thank all the cyclists, sponsors, organisers, supporters and spectators – a total of €2,402 was raised for the Helen Blake Replica Lifeboat Project.

SUPERVISED STUDY GROUP

The parents supervised study group for Secondary School students will recommence in Duncannon National School in September for the 2018-2019 school year from 6 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. each evening. To book or make enquiries please contact Anne at 086 3614543.

FUNDRAISIN­G DAY

A special fundraisin­g day will be held on Sunday, August 19, from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. at Peadar and Verna Goff’s, Forge House, Harristown, Ballymitty, in memory of their son Edward. All money raised will be donated to the N. ICU in Holles St and the SCBU in Wexford. There will be a wide variety of plants and lovely home baking for sale. There will be face painting for the kids and a raffle with lots of prizes too. Hope you can make it.
