Inistioge bridge and castle going gold for charity
A free fun family day for child cancer research is being held in Inistioge on Saturday, September 15, from 4 p.m. till 9 p.m.
Taking place on the green this year’s Light It Up Gold event will be bigger than last year’s with live music and a DJ on an open stage, face painting, a bouncy castle, canoe paddling, Disney characters, a meet and greet with Kilkenny hurlers, goodie bags and more. Marquee tents and a seating area is provided in case it rains.
The community of Inistioge went gold last year as did Sydney Opera House and many more famous monuments. The only 10 arch rubble stone bridge in Europe, located in Inistioge was lit up gold to create awareness about child cancer. This year another monument Mount Sanford Castle – which is located behind the famous bridge – will also be lit up gold which will make for a spectacular sight.
One of the organisers Stella O’Connor Katus said: ‘Our primary goal is to raise awareness of childhood cancer and support parents and families that have been affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with the children and their families whom are affected by this. A special thought for the brave Harry O’Connor. “You can never forget someone who gave you so much to remember”.’
Stella said all proceeds of any donations will be made to medical research in UCD, Beads of Courage, an internationally recognised arts of medicine programme and St John’s Haematology/oncology ward at Our Lady’s children’s hospital Crumlin.
