Roaming Hero the big fancy for grand prize final

-

THE GEORGE’S Hair Designs grand prize final is the major attraction on Thursday night, and Kilkenny trainer Peter Cronin seems to hold the trump card with his charge Roaming Hero who was a most impressive in the first semi-final.

Breaking fast from trap one, he raced right away from the field to score an easy win in a fast 28.84.

Local Trainer John Kavanagh won the other semi with his own Jacobs Deed who also got out of the traps well and scored a fine win in a time of 29.02.

Kavanagh had earlier scored with his Brightside Vim in race six, running on well to hold off the running on Oxtail Oscar in a good 29 seconds.

Owner Tommy Woods had a good double in races two and eight.

Another man to have a good week was trainer Anton Butler who saw his Telex Brat put in a good finish to get up on the line in race three, while on Monday night his Blow Your Mind blew the field away in race eight, coming home eight and a half lengths to the fore in a super 28.66.

The feature event on Monday night’s card was the final of the Niamh Morriarty Solicitors unraced stake, and there was a popular local winner when the Declan Kelly and Patrick Whelanowned Indian Trump put in a fine front-running performance to score a clearcut win in a good 29.07.

The John Codd and Diane Brodie-owned Cushie Jet won his semi-final of the Texacloth Juvenile stakes at Newbridge on Friday night from a near impossible position.

Having got serious trouble at the first bend, he flew home to grab the victory. He has drawn trap five in the final and will need to have his trapping boots on to clear the field in this red-hot line-up. Jet is well capable of doing just that.
