Tullow Tank gets behind Jack & Jill Carrigbyrne hike
CARRIGBYRNE HILL is the venue for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation ‘Up the Hill for Jack & Jill’ fundraising walk on Sunday, October 7.
Leinster and Ireland rugby player, the ‘ Tullow Tank’ Seán O’Brien has gotten behind the Jack & Jill team in asking people throughout Ireland to climb a hill between October 7 and October 14 to raise money for home nursing and respite care for sick children.
Currently there are 21 Wexford children under the care of the Jack & Jill Foundation and since 1997 115 Wexford children have benefited from its great work.
Registration is now open for ‘Up the Hill for Jack & Jill’ at www.jackandjill.ie/upthehill at a cost of €16 which funds one hour of home nursing care for a sick child.
The fundraising campaign involves six organised hill walking events taking place in locations around the country including in Carrigbyrne.
People can also register to create their own local ‘Up the Hill’ mini event during the first week in October. The Do It Yourself (DIY) option is open for people to identify their own hill or challenge. This could involve organising a group of family and friends to walk up a big or small hill locally, getting on the treadmill in the gym or undertaking whatever hill is meaningful to them.
Speaking at the launch, Carmel Doyle, Interim CEO Jack & Jill said: ‘We want to acknowledge our carer community of families and nurses and the daily hill they climb in looking after a sick child at home, and what it means to get a gentle push of support.’
Ms Coyle said: ‘ It is very timely that we are launching this is during Palliative Care week.’
