Fethardmayorraceison!
THE race is on for the Mayor of Fethardon-Sea with candidates setting out ambitious campaigns at Loftus Hall.
The election launch day kicked off with a barbecue and entertainment from up-and-coming local band The Castaways. MC Pat Kent interviewed all the prospective candidates, each of whom showcased their manifestos and impressive talents.
Children were kept busy with an Inflatable Adventure Zone kindly donated by Hook Head Adventures and fabulous face painting by Aisling Mullan.
The candidates for the mayoral election race are: Dylan Chapman representing Loftus Hall, Megan Murphy representing Molloy’s Bar, John Nolan representing Droopy’s Bar, Pirate Pat representing Hook Lighthouse, Kevin Roche representing Neville’s Bar and Andrew Whelan representing Dillon’s Londis.
Pirate Pat of Hook Lighthouse fame was very focussed on eliminating single use plastic from the village (as the lighthouse and other local businesses have done) and cleaning up the Seven Seas from all the plastic pollution.
John Nolan wants bins and public toilets for the village given there are so many beaches in the vicinity and no facilities at any of them. He also wants a footpath from the village to the doctor’s surgery and to the local primary school.
Megan Murphy wants more activities and facilities for teenagers and young people.
Andrew Whelan and Dylan Chapman, both talented performers, want to see more of a focus on the arts, particularly more options for after school activities for young people to develop their talents.
Andrew performed a song with his guitar while Dylan gave a brilliant modern dance performance.
Finally, Kevin ‘Keep the Lights On’ Roche has a significant interest in the sea and wants to see more maritime activity in Fethard, most importantly, a proper launch slip at Fethard Dock for boats and other pleasure craft.
Andrew Whelan’s campaign slogans are #IsFeidirLinn #YesWheLan!
Votes for each candidate cost €1 and each vote will be entered into a monster raffle.
Votes can be placed in any of the candidates’ sponsoring businesses and also in the post office, Gemini Hair Salon, Wheelhouse Cafe and The Lighthouse Trading Co. Cafe.
All proceeds go towards Fethard Community Development Association.
The committee would like to sincerely thank Aidan Quigley and his team in Loftus Hall for providing the superb venue.
The new mayor will be inaugurated at an event in early November and it is hoped there will be no dirty tricks as the race heats up.
