Exciting tussles in Juvenile Co. finals

-

OUR JUVENILE 60 x 30 handball season is starting to come to a close, and over the next couple of weeks all finals will be decided.

Castlebridge was the first to host the games, and the Under-14 boys’ singles was on the agenda.

Coolgeany’s Mylie Connors was up against Castlebridge’s Eamonn Moran. Eamonn was in his first final and tried very hard, but he came up against a more experienced player and Mylie just proved too strong.

Second on the agenda was the Under-15 boys’ singles were Mylie’s older brother, Tommy, was facing Taghmon’s Conor Murphy.

Tommy was much the stronger player, but Conor showed great determination and fight before Tommy took the title 2-0.

Action turned to St. Mary’s on Sunday morning where young guns Harvey O’Brien and Ryan Cardiff (Taghmon) took on Conor Fanning and Patrick Byrne (Coolgreany) in the boys’ Under-11 doubles.

Harvey and Ryan started well but Conor and Patrick were that bit more experienced and took the title back to Coolgreany.

Next up in St. Mary’s was the Under-16 boys’ singles between Taghmon’s Mark Doyle and Josh Kavanagh of St. Joseph’s.

These two know each other’s games inside out as they have been partners at national and world level for many years.

Mark started off strong and never let Josh into the game. Josh battled hard but Mark was determined to see off the challenge and took the title 2-0.
