1 NEW ROSS PIANO FESTIVAL: New Ross Piano Festival takes place at venues across New Ross from Wednesday, featuring an exceptiona­l line-up, with renowned internatio­nal pianists Alexandra Dariescu, Anne-Marie McDermott and Finghin Collins all set to take their position at the piano this year. As well as the ticketed concerts there are free events in the Dunbrody Visitor centre, the library, the Pastoral Centre and in the parish church. There are also PLAY ME pianos located in odd venues for anyone to have a go at any time. There are midday concerts, evening concerts, and late night concerts. The festival draws in audiences from home and abroad, bringing welcome business to New Ross during the tourist shoulder season. The New Ross Piano Festival continues to attract some of the most interestin­g and talented pianists on the internatio­nal circuit for a feast of music in intimate venues that draws audiences from across the world since it started in 2006. For further details about the line-up see www. newrosspia­nofestival.com. 2 ONE of the world’s most respected jazz musicians will be performing in Wexford Arts Centre this coming weekend to celebrate the launch of his fifth album titled, ‘Keynotes’. Dave Jones is a Port Talbot based piano player who is widely celebrated in the world of jazz. He is also an acclaimed composer and his music has featured on television in the UK and the USA. He has a history of working with talented Wexford drummer Kevin Lawlor and for the Arts Centre gig the Dave Jones Quartet will be composed of Mr Lawlor, Andrew Csibi (double bass) and Adam Nolan (saxophone). Tickets, priced €14 and €12, are now available from the Wexford Arts Centre box-office on 053-9123764. 3 FASHION SHOW The Wexford Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Service is holding‘The Best of Wexford Head to Toe’ fundraisin­g event in Clayton Whites Hotel on Sunday, September 30 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. A cookery demonstrat­ion will be given by the award-winning Paul Hynes of La Cote Restaurant. Experts will offer beauty and fashion advice. Admission tickets for members of the public will cost €10 on the door. 4 THE SHAPE OF TWO WITH BERNARD CASEY & FRED COOKE: A night of pure hilarity is promised at the Presentati­on Centre in Enniscorth­y on Friday night as two of the country’s best-loved comedians put on a doublehead­liner. Bernard Casey is well-known for his hilarious viral videos, while Fred Cooke’s animated antics on The Tommy Tiernan Show and Republic of Telly are only a fraction of what he offers live. Tickets are €15 from The Presentati­on Centre. 5 BOOK LAUNCH: Carina McEvoy will be launching two new books in Gorey Library, on Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m. One book is for children who suffer with anxiety and is titled ‘Sometimes I worry...how about you?’, while the sister support book for adults is called ‘Sometimes my child worries...what do I do?’. Carina, who is a former secondary school teacher, is from Gorey and dealing with her own severe depression has empowered her to write books and hold educationa­l classes for parents. For more informatio­n call Gorey Library on 053 94 21481. 6 WEXFORD pop-rock duo, Tierney, will perform in Wexford Arts Centre this coming Friday, September 28, at 8 p.m. The gig comes in the wake of a sell-out performanc­e in Green Acres in the summer and following the release of their debut single. For the forthcomin­g gig the duo have teamed up with a full band of talented musicians and it promises to be one of the music highlights of the year. There will be special guests on the night. Tickets for the show are available from Golden Discs and through the duo’s social media page at www.facebook.com/ tierneyoff­icial. 7 WEXFORD Arts Centre will play host to award-winning comedian George Egg this evening Tuesday, September 25, when he will present his brand new show, ‘DIY Chef’. In the show the audience learns that George’s doctor has told him he needs to rethink his culinary habits and his family have banished him from the kitchen to the shed. However, he just has to keep cooking and comes up with novel and innovative ways of creating exquisite food. The show falls somewhere between stand-up comedy and an illustrate­d lecture and there will be a lot of laughs.
