DANCING AT CAMROSS

The October dance will be held on Friday, October 5, with music by Checkers. Dancing from 10 p.m. till late, admission €10 including the tea.

VARIETY CONCERT

Please reserve Sunday, September 30 at 8 p.m. for the annual Variety Concert in Camross Hall with a host of entertaine­rs from all around the county.

Artists will include Celtic Roots, Nick Dempsey, The Curran music group, Anita and John Cullen, Vicky Barron, Sharon Clancy, Ballycogle­y comedy group, Eabha Doyle, Seamus Murphy, Aidan Sinnott, Fr. Robert McGuire, Pat O’Callaghan comedy group, Ann Marie Greene, Sean Furlong, Aoife Codd, Rachel Hussey, Frances McCabe and Ann Dempsey, with other artists to confirm their availabili­ty.

The event is in aid of continued hall refurbishm­ent. Admission €10, including The Tea. A wonderful night of entertainm­ent is guaranteed.

HOSPICE COFFEE DAY

Denis and Breda Banville will host a coffee day in aid of hospice on Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at their home in Camross and will be assisted by members of Camross ICA Every cup counts. Come along and help your local hospice make a life a little brighter.

CASTLE VINTAGE CLUB

The Dick Williams Memorial tractor run is being held on Sunday October 7, leaving Taghmon Community Centre at 11 a.m. There will be spot prizes on the day. All are welcome.

ATHLETICS CLUB NEWS

We had a great day for our fourth annual cross country event. Thank you to all the clubs that came to support our event. It gave competing athletes a good run before the upcoming county and Leinster championsh­ips.

TAGHMON ICA

Taghmon ICA held its meeting on September 19 at 7.30 p.m. in Scout Hall. President Mary Noonan welcomed everyone back after summer break. She welcomed new member Suzanne Kelly.

Sympathy was extended to the Simmons, Doyle, Whitty, Carroll, Fenlon, Donnelly, Clifford and Southam families also to Carol Gray and family on the death of her Uncle Colin Dier.

National and Regional voting papers were completed. Go for Life applicatio­n also completed. Six members are going to An Grianan October 19 to October 21, Breda Codd won the An Grianan voucher €25. Marie Greene won the competitio­n, nicest garden flower, a beautiful rose. Raffle won by Mary Noonan.

Mr Henry Noonan gave a very interestin­g and informativ­e talk on Insulation and Home Heating.

CAMROSS ICA

Our next meeting will be at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 1, in Camross Hall. The competitio­n will be the ‘nicest decorated cooking apple’.

A few dates for your diary: September 23 – Fun walk in JFK Park (meeting at 2 p.m. in Camross, walk starting at 2.30 p.m.). September 24 – Federation Meeting in St Louis Daycare Centre, Ramsgrange. October 4 Mary Kelly will be holding a cookery demonstrat­ion. Make sure you get your tickets as this will be a ‘ticket only’ event. October 6 – Breda Banville will be hosting the Wexford Hospice Coffee day (from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m.). – November 8 – Knit and Stitch Event in Dublin.

Did you know that the age for joining the ICA is 16? We are delighted to count a Transition Year guild in county Wexford. This could be a nice project for your TY year.

CAMROSS DRAMA GROUP

Rehearsals have begun in earnest for the upcoming hilarious three-act comedy ‘ Canaries’ by Bernard Farrell. Director, Michael Stafford is doing a great job, organising his 12 strong cast.

We are joining forces with Blackwater and Kilmuckrid­ge, who also have one Act DLI Festival plays – On Friday, October 19, Wayside Players will perform ‘Riders to the Sea’ by JM Synge and on Sunday, October 21, Kilmuckrid­ge will bring ‘A Tear was Flowing’ by Tommy Monaghan to the stage at Camross Hall. Along with our own festival entry ‘ Lucy in the Sky’, (amateur performanc­e in conjunctio­n with Stagesript­s) these promise to be another treat in store for audiences. The Camross cast and crew will not be resting on Saturday the 20th though – they travel to Kilmuckrid­ge to entertain theatre lovers there.
