Welsh choir raises the roof at rugby club show

- By DAVID LOOBY

A RENOWNED Welsh choir raised the roof and set the tone for a fantastic night at New Ross Rugby clubhouse on Friday.

The crowd enjoyed a visiting choir called Bargoed, from just north of Cardiff, who gave a singing experience the likes of which it had not seen for many years.

Showcasing their considerable talents as they undertook their annual tour, they treated the crowd in attendance to an accomplished range of choral pieces from traditional Welsh hymns to Disney soundtrack pieces. Previous tours for the choir had involved trips to Germany, France and Jersey, with their last trip to Ireland being four years earlier.

After the formal performance had concluded, the predictable informal one began as locals and visitors traded singing performances late into the night.

NRRFC President David Burke, prominent among the performers, later indicated that the night had been a great success and hinted that further nights of high class entertainment could be looked forward to at the Southknock venue.

David also congratulated the club on reaching the final of the New Ross Chamber Business and Community awards being included in the running for best sports club.

John Angove, organising secretary of Bargoed, said afterwards that it had been the choir’s best ever tour night and promised to include NRRFC in their next Ireland tour.
