Two nights of com­edy

New Ross Drama Work­shop is pre­sent­ing an evening of one act plays on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 17, in Campile Par­ish Hall and on the fol­low­ing night in St Michael’s Theatre, New Ross, at 8 p.m. on both evenings.

‘Peo­ple Like us’ is a com­edy di­rected by Anne Kelly which tells the story of four ladies hol­i­day­ing in a quin­tes­sen­tial Ir­ish car­a­van park. ‘The Death of Me’, di­rected by Kate O’ Ke­effe, tells the comic story of John who hav­ing be­ing called to heaven is re­turned to earth for one day to make a bet­ter im­print in the sand of life, while ‘Specter’, di­rected by Peggy Hussey, is a psychological thriller set in the front seat of a car and tells the story of what can hap­pen to a man who picks up a stranger on the road in the mid­dle of the night.

Group chair­per­son Ed­ward Hay­den said: ‘Many weeks have been spent pol­ish­ing these plays and they are now au­di­ence ready. We have three very dif­fer­ent pro­duc­tions this year and au­di­ences are in for a tour-de-force of the­atri­cal­ity’

Tick­ets for each per­for­mance are €10 and will be avail­able on the door or through the theatre.

The Vik­ing Bridge Club re­sults for Septem­ber are: Septem­ber 6: 1st Terese Burke and Frances O’Brien, 2nd Bernie Sweeney and Catherine Moy­lan, Septem­ber 13: 1st Jane Parker and Davy Do­ran, 2nd Miceal O’Neill and Ray Shan­non; Septem­ber 20: 1st Dora Fur­long and Rosarii Dono­van, 2nd Kay Tyrell and Breda O’Con­nor; Septem­ber 27: 1st Martin Burke and Ray Shan­non, 2nd Nora Mur­phy and He­len Mur­phy.

New Ross Adult Read­ing Group meets on the sec­ond Tues­day of every month to dis­cuss pop­u­lar and lit­er­ary fic­tion in a pleas­ant and friendly en­vi­ron­ment. This month’s book for dis­cus­sion is Trick by Domenico Starnone. New mem­bers are al­ways wel­come.
