Neigh doubt about it, this was a pony classic!

THERE was a large turn out for the Irish Pony Club National Hunter Trials Championsh­ips, with more than 300 pony club members from all over Ireland competing in Old Ross.

The competitio­ns were run on a brand new course built over the last three months by volunteers from Wexford Hunt Branch Pony Club and Wexford Foxhounds Hunt Club at their grounds in Moorfields, Old Ross.

Feedback on the course was excellent and the day went smoothly and safely, although it rained for most of it.

The results were as follows: Junior Pairs 1st - Zoe Bolton and Samantha Bretzer from Meath Pony Club, 2nd Emma Dunne and Robyn Maher from Laois Hunt Pony Club, 3rd Geraldine Tyner and Paul Burke from South Union. Henry Seebach and Caolán Costello of Wexford Hunt Branch Pony Club came in eight place. Chiara Moore and Michaela Walsh of the Killinicks came in 7th. Seamus Nolan and Billy Byrne came in 10th place for the Wexfords. There were a total of 91 pairs competing.

Junior Singles - Bill Reidy Leahy of the Scarteen Pony Club in Limerick won first place, Emily Martin from East Galway won second and Samantha Bretzer of Meath Hunt Pony Club came in third. Ava Dowley of the Island Hunt Club won fourth place.

Novice Intermedia­te Pairs - Grace Costello and Tara Wakeham of Wexford Hunt Club came second ( Ward Union came first). Novice Intermedia­te Singles - Tara Wakeham took second place again for the Wexfords and Ciara Banville took third for the Wexfords. Laois Hunt’s Eabha Murphy came in first. Teams of Three - The Carlow Rockets Alec Redmond, Jude Donohoe and Lorna Byrne came in first and the Wexfords came in 2nd with Ellen Ronan, Annie Finn and Niamh Redmond as the Three Amigos. 3rd was the Scarteen Trio.

Senior Pairs - Ivanna Dempsey and Emma Brady of the Newcastle Lyons Pony Club took first place, Sarah Whelan and Emma Carton of the Island Pony Club took second, Caoimhe Daly- O’Brien and Jane Mooney of the Wicklow Pony Club came in second. Senior Singles - Hannah Roch-Perks won first place for the West Waterford Pony Club, Alannah Lacey won second place for the Killinicks and Ella Byrne took third for the Shillelagh­s.
