TIDY TOWN REPORT

At the October meeting of Clonroche Development Association CLG, held in Clonroche Community Centre, the Tidy Towns Report was discussed. Gaining four points on last year’s results and maintaining third place in its category in the county, committee members and Tidy Town Plan author, Thomas Furlong, suggested the community should be very pleased with their effort and the improvement in the marks.

With the Green Spaces and Landscaping section achieving 46 out of a possible 50 marks its difficult to improve in this area and appreciation should be extended to the committee and CE workers for their effort.

Community Your Planning and Involvement Section achieving 50 out of a possible 60 marks is again demonstrating the commitment and expertise of the association membership.

Tidiness and Litter Control getting 60 out of a possible 90 marks leaves scope for improvement and with Litter in the village fairly well controlled Tidiness, it seems presents the greater potential for improvement. Residential Streets and Housing Areas again offer potential opportunities to do better. Only achieving 30 out of a possible 50 points.

Probably the section offering the greatest scope for improvement, as pointed out by the writer of the Tidy Towns Plan, Thomas Furlong, is the Sustainability. Doing more with less section where a 14 out of 50 marking leaves a lot of potential. Anyone with ideas in this area will be very welcome to discuss them with the association.

Taken all in all the community of Clonroche should take pride in their achievement this year and resolve to do better next season.
