CLOUGHBAWN GAA
Teams and supporters had a busy day on Saturday, October 6, starting off with the under-13 hurling team in St Patrick’s Park against neighbours Davidstownin the D4 Final. Davidstown-Courtnacuddy were on top form and scored 1-4 to 0-1 in the first half, but the Cloughbawn never gave up and went on the attack from the start of the second half, scoring a goal almost immediately and bringing them back into the game, both side kept plugging away at the score, the opposition moving five points ahead at one stage, but it was to be Cloughbawn day, winning by that smallest margin of one point. Well done to manage Martin Kehoe and all his mentors and to the boys who never gave up fighting.
The next game was also in the Patricks Park when the under-17 RI hurling team took on Oulart-The Ballagh. Cloughbawn moved ahead with three points in the early minutes, but Oulart came back into the game with a series of points and a goal to even up the scores. Cloughbawn moved ahead with a fantastic display of hurling from each member of the team, winning by five points to the delight of the huge crowd of Cloughbawn supporters. Well done Manager Robert Kehoe, mentors Martin Kehoe, Gavin Murphy and Tony Keating. The future is very bright when we see brilliant display of hurling from these young men. Many thanks to all the supporters, parents grandparent and family members who made this a day to remember.
The last game of the day was in Wexford Park, when the intermediate team contested the semi-final against HWH Bunclody and again the team battled hard, holding off Bunclody to win by three points at the end.
