OVER-35S SOCCER

We were back to the max on 20th with 20 guys taking to the field in a full on game that ended in a draw I believe after a long and frantic game were there were only four or five goals scored for each team and a few gifts handed out from Dave and yours truly – we were feeling sympathetic at the time. In the end it nearly cost the bibs as they were behind by two goals with only minutes on the clock. But all was redeemed when we drew level in Fergie time, which was well justified as no one wanted to stop.

Games take place on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. indoor in Grantstown, be there 15 minutes beforehand so we can kick off in the allotted time please. If you’d like to come along or want further information, please give Dave Burke a shout either by text or a call to 086 8596627.

Horeswood COUNTY CHAMPIONS

After a nerve wrecking finish Horeswood beat Crossabeg-Ballymurn 0-17 to 1-13 in the Intermediate Football Final in Wexford Park last week. The foundation for victory was laid in the final 10 minutes of the first half when we hit a purple patch, scoring some lovely points, to lead 0-13 to 0-5, having played with the wind.

Crossabeg came back strongly after the interval and a goal midway through the second half left the game in the melting pot but we held on for a one point win and an immediate return to the senior ranks. Throughout the campaign we won all eight games. When we last won intermediate in 1998 we also went unbeaten.

The team was Conor Swaine, Kevin Parker, Barry Hearn, Seán Stafford, Johnny Keating, Leigh O’Brien, Eddie Shiely, Shane O’hanlon, Colin Nolan, David Larkin, Jamie Meyler, Ciaran Deely, Seán Nolan, PJ Banville, Declan Murphy, Subs: Michael O’Hanlon, for C Deely, Darren Shannon for E Shiely, Eoin Murphy, John Bradley, Gavin Murphy, Eric Banville, Eamonn O’Sullivan, David Murphy, David O’Shea, Darren O’Reilly, Eddie Breen, Brendan Howlin, Brian Kehoe.
