ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The annual church gate collection in aid of the local Chapter of St Vincent de Paul will take place at all Masses in the parish on the weekend of December 1/2. All donations no matter how small will be greatly appreciated to enable the Chapter to give some assistance at Christmas time to the less well off in our area.

Every Euro received goes to the assistance of those in need strictly in the parish of Rosbercon. A discreet call from anyone in genuine hardship to any of the committee members will be treated in the strictest confidence and will get an immediate response. The committee members of the local Chapter of St Vincent de Paul are, Richard McElwee, Mary B Conway, Séamus Waters, Brid Vereker and Catherine Cotterell and the special help line is 087 7140112.

PARISH HALL AND GROUNDS

Over the past number of weeks the Hall Committee have been overseeing the upgrading of facilities there by replacing the doors on the outdoor toilets, upgrading the outside and internal hall lighting, to energy efficient standards. The cost of the total project was €9,000 and financial assistance was received from Kilkenny County Council, comprising an Amenity Grant and a Community Enhancement Grant, totalling €3,700. The remaining balance for the work done was met by fundraising from the Parish Hall Committee, who are very grateful to Kilkenny County Council for their financial support.

REMEMBRANCE MASS

CHRISTMAS CARDS

Time is running out for the annual practice of sending Christmas cards to our emigrants in various parts of the world. We have the usual list of would be recipients from past year’s and they will be looked after. However, if there is anyone out there not on the list and to whom you might like to get a card, please contact the parish office, Fr Dan Cavanagh, or Jamesie Murphy jamesiemurphy@gmail.com as soon as possible.

COMMUNITY ALERT

At the recent well attended AGM of the Tullogher-Rosbercon Community Alert Group, George Walsh was elected chairman, Brigid Healy as secretary, John Kent, treasurer, and Patrick Bookle PRO Garda Conor Cleere attended and outlined the value of a community alert structure supporting Gardaí in rural areas and reducing crime through increased vigilance and communication by local residents.

In the past year Emergency Response units were installed in an increased number of homes in the parish with all the administration taken care of by a Community Alert representative. For more information on this scheme please contact Brigid Healy at 087 9020552.

The text alert idea is a very good one highlighting the movement of suspicious vehicles or persons throughout the parish and preventing possible robberies or thefts of valuable items. Some 420 households received 68 text alerts in the past year and if you would like to be included on the list contact 087 1999585 at your convenience.

ROSBERCON UNITED

Rosbercon United 1-0 Carne FC: Rosbercon United got back to winning ways with a hardfought 1-0 win over top of the table Carne FC the Rosbercon boys dominated the early proceedings with some slick passing moves on display but clear cut chances were hard to come by. That was till Rosbercon were awarded a free kick in dangerous territory with Kevin Doyle’s effort proving too hot for the keeper to handle with the rebound falling to Joe Meggs, who squared it to Jamie St Ledger to power the ball into the back of the empty net. Carne looked dangerous throughout from set pieces but couldn’t find a way past Nathan Gaffney in the Rosbercon United goal.
