All about college at the Campus
The Wexford Campus of IT Carlow went back to school to promote the benefits of third level education as part of College Awareness Week.
The campus stepped up its schools’ outreach efforts by organising numerous information visits by staff and students to second level schools across the county.
College Awareness Week is a national campaign aimed at promoting the educational, social and economic benefits of going to college.
The Wexford campus which was established 23 years ago also embraced the initiative by holding an Open Day and invited students, parents, teachers and careers guidance councillors into the college to tour the facilities, meet lecturers and attend talks on the various courses on offer.
The campus offers a wide variety of degrees such as Sustainable Farm Management, Applied Social Studies, Early Childhood, Creative computing, Visual Communications, Art, Design, Business, Tourism and Event Management.
There was an enthusiastic response from County Wexford students to the outreach initiative, according to Head of Campus Dr. Karen Hennessy.
‘During College Awareness week, over 500 students from a range of schools including the Presentation, St. Peters College, Coláiste Bríde, the CBS and Selskar College visited the Wexford Campus here in Summerhill Road’, she said.
‘It was a great opportunity for them to find out about the degree courses that are available to them and to learn about the benefits that a higher education can provides in their lives.’
The Wexford Campus of Carlow IT was established in 1995 and has risen to become the largest provider of third level education for Wexford’s more than 5,000 students with an estimated 20% of the county’s student population enrolled at the Institute.
Recently, over 200 graduates were conferred with qualifications at this year’s conferring ceremony.
