Race night raises a huge €20,000 for Hospice
A race night held at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track saw a huge win for County Wexford Hospice Homecare, which collected a cheque for over €20,000 to support the great work it does for the elderly in our communities.
Brendan and Christy Murphy of the Horse & Hound Hotel, Ballinaboola had the idea to raise funds for Co Wexford Hospice Homecare Service with a night at the dogs.
A group called the Friends of Wexford Hospice was founded incorporating the Laugh for Hope and Hospice Group who have been raising funds for both the Hope Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorthy and Co Wexford Hospice Homecare Service. To date they have raised €53,790.
A committee was formed consisting of Brendan Murphy Horse & Hound Ballinaboola (chairman), Christy Murphy also of the Horse & Hound, Mike Nolan, Marshalstown, Eamonn Mernagh, Mernagh’s bar Oylegate, Bill Nolan of Millenium Bar, Davidstown, Tom Kenny, Castledockrell, Charlie Bradley, Newbawn and Robert Bennett, Ballinakill, Ballycarney.
The race night was launched by the well-known horse trainer Aidan O Brien on October 1 at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track. A very large crowd attended which gave the impetus that this event would be a success. The event on Sunday, October 28, drew a huge crowd, raising €20,281 which has been presented to representatives of County Wexford Hospice Homecare.
The money was raised by ticket sales and the very generous sponsorship of a large number of businesses to which the organising committee are very grateful.
A Hospice spokesperson said the generosity of everyone involved will enhance the services of County Wexford Hospice Homecare.
