ROSBERCON UNITED FC

STAMULLEN FC 3-3 ROSBERCON UNITED (STAMULLEN FC WIN 4-2 ON PENALTIES) Rosbercon United made the long trek up to Stamullen in Meath for a Leinster Junior Shield clash.

On a windy day against a good technical Stamullan FC side, Rosbercon found themselves two goals down at half time.

Rosbercon came out of the blocks firing at the start of the second half with three quick-fire goals. Kevin Doyle opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Barry Ryan found himself on the end of a long ball over the top to nod the ball over the keeper and into the empty net to bring the sides level. Kevin Doyle added to his tally shortly after to put Rosbercon United a goal up at 3-2.

Stamullan FC leveled it up with a free kick of the highest quality to give Jamie Lawlor in the goal no chance.

Both teams had clear cut chances to nick the win, with Paudie Murphy coming agonizingly close to winning it with a header right at the death.

Plenty of tired legs and no goals in extra time brought us to a dreaded penalty shootout.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for the Rosbercon boys with Stamullan FC proving the more deadly side from the spot and running out 4-2 winners on penalties. A great game of football and best of luck to Stamullan FC in the rest of the tournament.

Kevin Doyle rounded off the scoring with a magnificient finish that the Rosslare keeper couldnt get anywhere close to.

The scoreline was a fair reflection on the game, with both sides having a number of good chances apart from the goals. A man of the match performance from Wayne Handrick in the Rosbercon goal kept Rosslare at bay and gave him a well deserved clean sheet.
