Poulfur pupils put best foot forward

-

ALL ROADS lead to Scoil Mhaodhóig Poulfur this Valentine’s Day as children prepare for their ‘Lovin’ Green Travel’ Day.

Part of participation in the Green School Travel Flag initiative, the children are nearing the end of their two-years of planning, raising awareness and actively engaging in environmentally friendly ways to travel to school and other journeys.

The highlight of the day will be the launch of the 2018 – 2019 annual plan, but kicks off with everybody trying their best to travel to school in an environmentally friendly way.

Awards will be made for energy, water and waste efficiency and to the class which has travelled in the most environmentally friendly way over the last month.

There will also be performances of the ‘Safe Cross Code’ and the winner of the schoolwide competition for the Travel Code, the catchy song ‘Carpool.’

Chairperson of the Green School Committee, Tomasso Hickey says: ‘ This is a big step towards our school getting its fourth Green School Flag, and everybody has made a huge effort when it comes being more aware and trying to travel in more positive ways, as well as keeping up our efforts with the other themes of litter and waste, energy and water.’

The school hopes to submit its application for the Green School Travel Flag in March.
