Glenmore camogie girls mark highlights of 30 years in the game
GLENMORE CAMOGIE CLUB held a reunion and 30th anniversary celebration of their club in the Glen Bar, Glenmore.
Club members past and present turned out for the night, which was enjoyed by all: former teammates going down memory lane together.
Everyone enjoyed refreshments and cake during a celebratory night.
The club was founded in 1989 by Richie and Maureen Mullally, Bridget Murphy, Breda Griffin, Mary Doherty (Kilbride) and Kathleen Cody. They entered their first competition in 1990 and in 1992 made the Junior A semi-final. All was not lost in 1992 when they entered the Junior B championship and won their first title. In 1993 and again in 1996 they won Junior A titles and in 1998 their first Intermediate title came.
The Glenmore Club had to wait for many years for its next adult title, but in the meantime they enjoyed great success with their underage teams, from minor teams down all grades won all titles.
The club hit the headlines again in 2013 the Junior team, winning the league and All County League. In 2014 they did the Junior Treble and followed it up in 2015 by winning the All County League at intermediate level.
In 2016 they did the treble again at Intermediate level bringing them back to senior ranks. The team spent the past couple of years competing at senior level but last year moved back down to Intermediate. The club wish to thank Pat and Geraldine Barron, Trudie Power and The Bakehouse for the cake, which was kindly sponsored by Andy and Fidelis Doherty.
