Sweeney strike keeps saints in promotion hunt

St. Cormac’s moved into third spot in Division 1 with a hard-fought win over Gorey Celtic on Friday evening.

James Sweeney fired the saints in front midway through the first-half and they soaked up Celtic pressure after the interval to take the three points.

North End United overcame bottom side St. Leonards 4-1, with Aaron Roche, Philly Leniston, Joe Wilson and Ciarán Carthy scoring for the Wexford town side and Tommy Byrne replying.

Liam Evans, Lee Jordan, Anto Larkin and John Peare got the goals for Moyne Rangers in their 4-2 victory over New Ross Celtic, with Seán Culleton and Adam Gracze hitting the back of the net for the Barrowside­rs.

Corach Ramblers and Rosslare Rangers shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw, with Mohammed Zaman scoring for Ramblers and Danny Ennis replying.

Division 4 leaders Rosbercon United had to be content with a share of the spoils on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Kiltealy Celtic.

Kevin Doyle and Nathan Gaffney got the goals for Rosbercon, with John ‘Samba’ McCarthy and Patrick Somers scoring for Kiltealy.

Courtown Hibs moved level on points with United after a 5-2 win over Ferns. Adam Ellard bagged a hat-trick for the winners, with Oisin Condren adding a double and Anthony Dwyer and Shane Breen hitting the back of the net for Ferns.

The Ballagh United and Carne FC played out a 1-1 draw, with Ian Storey scoring for the hosts and Aaron Corish netting for Carne.

Camolin Celtic picked up the points against Curracloe United, winning 3-1 with goals from Josh McGrath (two) and Ashley Tully.

Greg O’Rourke, Jake Cassidy and Owen Byrne got the goals for Gorey Celtic in their 3-1 win over Campile United, with Paddy Cardiff replying.
