Kennedy College shows its class
KENNEDY COLLEGE opened its doors recently for parents and guardians and prospective students from fourth, fifth and sixth classes in the local community.
Those who attended could stroll through the college; meet staff and see current students performing demonstrations, see student project work on display; watch activities in the various rooms and enjoy some light refreshments provided by the college.
Deputy Principal Dominic Hearne, welcomed everyone and outlined the many courses the college has to offer; mainly Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate, JCSP, Transition Year, Leaving Cert Applied, LCVP and PLC courses.
He said there are a wide variety of subjects offered, both academic and practical at ordinary and higher levels and informed parents of the various school supports available – Guidance Counsellor, Home School Liaison Officer, Learning Support teachers, Special Needs Assistants, Parents Association, School Attendance Officer, Book and Locker Rental Scheme, Student Council, Meitheal Group, Breakfast club and subsidized lunches.
He also provided information on different school policies and the New Era Programme - UCD links initiative, which facilitates students to progress to third level education.
Mr Hearne thanked people for attending invited them to enjoy the refreshments and enrolment opportunities.
He also introduced the new principal, Michael Weafer, who said he was looking forward to taking up his new appointment, and getting to know parents, pupils and staff over the coming years.
A school spokesperson said: ‘Kennedy College is well known for its strong tradition of excellence both inside and outside the classroom environment and especially on the sporting field with many valuable trophies hard won over the years. The open night was a great success and all had a very enjoyable evening.’
