‘Queen’ drum up support to win lip sync battle

- By DAVID LOOBY

IT WAS a case of a red hot Queen performance against an ice cold Frozen show complete with snowflakes, in an epic fundraising lip sync battle night which drew a massive crowd to the Brandon House Hotel.

New Ross Musical Society and New Ross & District Pipe Band joined forces for the hilarious lip sync battle, which saw hits from down through the decades ‘performed’ with gusto by six acts from each group.

Sean O’Brien from New Ross Musical Society said the event was a great success, adding that plans are already underway for another lip sync battle in 2020: ‘We would like to thank all of our brilliant Lip Sync acts and organising committee for all their hard work over the last number of months. You did us all proud. Well done to New Ross & District Pipe Band on taking home the winning trophy with their act Queen. It was a real crowd pleaser.’

He praised the New Ross & District Pipe Band committee and everyone in New Ross Musical Society for going above and beyond, especially James

Dobbs.

Sean thanked the Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s for the stage arch and Liam, Niall and Eddie for building it, the Brandon House Hotel for all their help, host Edward Hayden and judges David ‘Stoney’ Burke, Anna Furlong and John Reilly. DJ Jim FitzGibbon provided the music on the night, and at the disco afterwards. Tom Kavanagh looked after the lighting, while Deborah O’Neill was stage manager. The money is still being totted up but suffice to say the night was a success for both groups.
