Trip down memory lane at reunion
MORE than 150 past pupils of Good Counsel College attended a reunion night where they enjoyed going down memory lane with old friends.
One man, Oliver Doyle, even travelled from Canada to attend the event, which also saw a past pupils union for the school launched. The day was for all past pupils. Deputy Principal Aidan O’Brien said following the success of a 25 year reunion organised by the class of 1993 last year, offers were forthcoming to form a past pupils reunion committee. Mr O’Brien said: ‘ There have been sporadic reunions by different groups over the years but it has never been anything structured.’
The event was advertised through local and social media and the core organising committee couldn’t believe how well attended the event was. Everyone attended a prayer service for deceased members of the school and afterwards enjoyed browsing through the school, looking at old photos and memorabilia, including sporting memorabilia and ledgers. Several past pupils from the sixties attended, and Mr O’Brien said it was lovely to see them sitting around the table, chatting and sharing stories.
Food and refreshments were served in the dining room. ‘People stayed for a few hours. You could hardly hear anything with the din of conversation. People were discussing their career pathways, their lives and the places they have been.’
The committee will met again and is there to provide an opportunity to network and is there for past pupils who may have fallen on hard times and for anyone who want to get involved in the life of the school going forward.
