Ferrycarrig 5 runners get 2020 off to a super start

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

KEEN to get 2020 off to a good start, some 300 runners travelled from all over Wexford and further afield to the home of Wexford FC, Ferrycarrig Park to take part in the Ferrycarrig 5.

This is the seventh year that the race has taken place, although last year saw a gap as there were concerns over the route as a result of roadworks on the N11. With the work now finished, however, clubs and individual runners from all over Wexford were delighted to take on the course once again.

‘It went really well again this year,’ said Padraig Moriarty of St Killian’s AC, which runs the event as a fundraiser for the Crossabeg Ballymurn Community Centre.

‘We had some of the top runners in the county and from even further afield taking part and there was a great atmosphere. Conditions were good too. We had a bit of drizzle in the morning, but thankfully the rain held off for the race itself.’

No stranger to the podium, Ger Forde of Slaney Olympic AC was first past the post, followed by Niall Sheil of St Killian’s and Joseph Lillis of United Striders.

First lady past the post was

Ciara Wilson of DMP, followed by Jackie Carthy of Kilmore AC and Clodagh Kelly of Croghan AC.

A full list of results is now available at popupraces.ie by searching for ‘ The Sheridan Insurances Ferrycarrig Five’.

The organisers wish to thank all those who took part on the day, volunteered both at the start/finish line and marshalled, as well as Sheridan Insurances and all the other sponsors.

Money is currently being tallied and is set to make a great start to 2020 for the local community centre.
