FISHING TRAGEDY
The Fethard and Kilmore areas were shocked to waken last weekend to the news of the sinking of the Duncannon based fishing vessel Alize of the Hook Head while returning from fishing. The boat was manned by local man Willie Whelan, Saltmills and Kilmore
native Joe Sinnott. Mr Sinnott was rescued by the Search and Rescue helicopter but died later in Waterford General Hospital. The search has been continuing for Willie Whelan.
LATE ITA GLEESON
The death occurred last Wednesday of Ita Gleeson,(née White) Ballygow, Fethard-onSea. She was predeceased by her husband the late Stan, and is mourned by her children Eileen, Anthony, Willie, Josephine, Clare, Marita, John and Patrick, her 17 grandchildren, her great grand-daughter, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Her Funeral Mass took place in St Aidan’s Church, Poulfur, last Saturday with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery Poulfur. Sympathy is extended to her family and friends. May She rest in peace.
LATE PATSY HOGAN
The death occurred suddenly last Wednesday of Patricia (Patsy) Hogan (née O’Hara) Laurel Lodge Saltmills. She is sadly missed by her husband Michael, daughters Deirdre, Jacinta, Oonagh and Valerie, sisters Vera, Dessie, sons-in-law, grandchildren, sister-in-law Diane, brotherin-law Simon, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Her funeral Mass took place at Friday in St Aidan’s church Poulfur, with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery Poulfur. Sympathy is extended to her family and friends. May She rest in peace.
PROGRESSIVE 45
The winners of the Progressive 45 Card Game in Colclough Hall, Saltmills last Sunday night were Maura Cahill, Sonny Cahill and Michael Murphy. In second place were Luke Power, Michael Kehoe and Billy Shannon. In third place were Johnnie Doyle, Dick Power and Tony Murphy. The last game draw was won by David Murphy, Georgie Foley and Seán Finn. The raffle winners were Billy Shannon, Dave Walsh, John Joe Murphy and Jimmy Cullen.
WEEKLY LOTTO
There was no winner of last week’s Club lotto jackpot of €7,500. Next week’s jackpot stands at €7,600. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 12 and 18. The club had two lucky-dip winners, John McCabe and Séamus Wall, who won €30 each.
FETHARD SPLIT-THE-POT
Congratulations to John Kane, who won €50 in the split-the-pot for January 2 and to Binty Molloy, who won €39 in the draw on January 9. Envelopes for splitthe-pot are available in the post office, Dillon’s, The Wheelhouse,
Molloy’s, Tom Neville’s and the Tourist Office. Draw takes place every Thursday.
PLOUGHING MATCH
Ballycullane Ploughing Association will be holding their 62nd annual ploughing match at Dunmain on Sunday, January 19, on land kindly given by John Stoneham. Match will start at 11 a.m. – all are welcome.
