New company to dock in Rosslare
A brand new ferry operator is set to be announced for Rosslare Europort in the coming weeks, offering an alternative route to France for both hauliers and tourists alike. Cathaoirleach of the Rosslare Municipal District and general election candidate Cllr Ger Carthy made the announcement this week that, following a series of meetings with the management team at the Europort led by Glen Carr, a major announcement is ‘imminent’.
Cllr Carthy said he wasn’t at liberty to announce the identity of the ferry operator at this stage, as the final details were currently being negotiated, but he expected a formal announcement to be made shortly.
‘A joint statement from Iarnród Éireann with the full details is imminent, but until then I can reveal that there will be additional capacity and frequency out of Rosslare Europort which will improve productivity and profitability in Rosslare Europort, the surrounding areas of Rosslare Harbour, Kilrane and throughout County Wexford,’
Cllr Carthy said.
‘ This operator, although new to Rosslare Europort, is well established and reputable and will provide excellent alternative routes to the near continent for hauliers and tourists.’
Cllr Carthy added that talks are also ongoing with ‘another additional operator’ about moving into Rosslare, as well as ‘funding approval for another €40 million for upgrade of the port and berthing facilities’.
He says that current and previous TDs should ‘ hang their heads in shame’ at the neglect of Rosslare Europort and leaving it to languish at Tier 2 status, thereby starving it of ‘millions of euro in funding’.
