Start-up weekend goes green
GOREY’S Hatch Lab hosts the Techstars Start-up Weekend from February 21 to 23 and it is now welcoming registrations.
Beginning at 6.30 p.m. on Friday, February 21, the weekend has a busy schedule of speakers, networking as well as hard work.
The idea behind the weekends is to get innovators and entrepreneurs in the areas of design, development, marketing, business strategy, IT, finance and content creators to come together for an intensive 54 hour session.
While participants are there for the weekend, they will pool ideas and resources to try come up with new start-ups and the theme this time a focus on green business solutions.
At the start of the weekend, participants are put into teams and each is mentored by experienced entrepreneurs along the way. By the end of the weekend, the team will pitch their ideas to a panel of experts, before the winner and runners up are selected.
Startup Weekends like these have proven to be the place for individuals to become a team, create a prototype of their idea after validation and receive feedback from others.
Organisers suggest you bring lots of energy and be prepared to pitch your ideas as well as listen to others.
‘You can come with friends but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team. Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues,’ said Emer Cooney of main sponsor Bank Of Ireland.
Tickets for the event are now available on Eventbrite.com, and range from €21.49 to €31.74.
Your ticket includes seven full meals over the course of the weekend, one to one time with mentors, free internet and coffee, benefits and discounts from global partners as well as the chance to meet a new network of developers, designers and entrepreneurs.
