Clare sends punters home happy with ninth win GREYHOUNDS

IT WAS a case of saving the best until last on Thursday night on the nine-race graded card at Enniscorthy dog track as trap four runner Clares Tavern sent punters home happy.

The 6/4 favourite gave her supporters little worries as she led up from traps. As she stayed very well, she was always in command after her good start to run out a four-length winner and record her ninth career success in a good 29.14 -30 slow.

In race six, Women’s Terri was a most impressive winner despite him not liking his trap six draw as he quickly raced across to the inside rail shortly after leaving traps.

Terri raced into a clear lead down the back to score by six lengths in a time of 29.30 -30 slow, his best so far, and he is now a winner of three of his seven races.

Race seven over the 575 saw a right good battle all the way to the line as Kiltrea Pudgie and Whitewood Lad matched strides on the run to the first bend.

It was off the second corner where the race was won as Kiltrea had that bit more acceleration to take up the running.

And despite the persistent effort of Whitewood to get back on terms, there was a length separating them on the line.

Kiltrea was winning for the sixth race and his time was 32.09 -30 slow.

It was the big finals night on Saturday in Clonmel and the feature event, the unraced final, saw a fine effort from the Tommy Mahoney (Barntown)-owned Gymstar Elusive who ran on very strongly to get second after being shuffled back at the very tricky first bend.

He was near last turning into the back straight and making up a lot of ground, but he was closing on the flying winner all the way to the line.
