DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION AGM

The annual general meeting of Clonroche Development Association took place On Monday, February 10, in Clonroche Community Center.

In his opening address to the meeting, chairman, Lorcan Dunne stated that this was the Association’s 21st year in existence, and he expressed the belief the group had made a major contribution for the betterment of Clonroche Village and area.

The chairman went on to state, ‘Our achievements over this time are numerous, we took over the Penny Bank, we developed the Millennium Park, we developed Johns Lane, the first Christmas tree in the village, the festive Christmas lights in the village, we had a Vintage Rallies for years that attracted thousands and thousands of people from all over the country, early on, we instigated the St Patrick’s Day parades, The Christmas Bazaars, at one time bringing Santa in a helicopter. Fashion shows, The Parish Parties. Ballymackessey Wood Walks, and much more. We brought the Fás Programme to the village’.

He went on to thank the many people, down through the years that contributed to the betterment of the village, some no longer with us, some did their time – give their contribution and pursued other interests, others continue giving their contribution. The association welcomed the newer members that came in over the years and continued with the work of Clonroche Development Association.

The development of the Amenity Park is a major development. but also, if we look at the amount of equipment we have accumulated over the years, this is also a major achievement. We have a Tractor, Ride on Mowers, Lawn Mowers, Strimmer’s, and a Shed to store them.

This, of course, brings responsibilities. Insurance to look after, direction of the CE personnel, the responsibility of looking after the buildings, and the green areas, planting, the responsibility of raising funds. ‘We can’t build up an organisation, secure major developments, attract funding, and then turn our back and walk away, that would be irresponsible’, The chairman went on to state.

Mr Thomas Furlong chaired the meeting for the election of officers and committee. The election produced the following results: chairman, Lorcan Dunne. Vice-chairman: Joe Kehoe, secretary, Martin Kelly, treasurer: Mary Tobin: Committee: Tom Furlong, Bernard Doran, Ml Cogley, Rev Ian Cruickshank, Diarmuid O’Sullivan, James Redmond, Jeff Sage and Hazel Sage. John Fleming.

Clonroche Development Association holds monthly meetings on the first Monday of each calendar month throughout the year.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Clonroche will again have a St Patrick’s Day parade this year. After lapsing last year, plans are being drawn up to have bigger, better, and more spectacular display going through the village on our national holiday. An appeal is being issued by the organising committee, for all businesses, groups and individuals, to put on their thinking caps and deliberate on themes for floats and individual performances.

It is expected that the local hostelries, as well as participating in the parade, will have entertainment throughout the day and well into the night. Mark your calendar for Clonroche on St Patrick’s Day, and bring your family and friend for the ceol and the craic.
