HELEN BLAKE SERVICE OF COMMEMORAT­ION.

The Norwegian Ambassador will be among those present at the Monument in Fethard-onSea on Thursday, February 20. The reason for her attendance is a service of Commemorat­ion for the crew of the Helen Blake lifeboat, which sank with the loss of nine lives on that date in 1914. Also present will be members of the RNLI and descendant­s of the 14-man crew, many of whom will be laying wreaths or flowers.

Proceeding­s start at midday and everybody is welcome to attend to show their respect and to remember one of the most important days in the history of the village.

THE LATE TOMMY BARRY

The death occurred last weekend of Tommy Barry, Churchtown, Fethard-on-Sea. Tommy, who was well known to locals and visitors alike is survived by his wife Kathleen, son James, daughters Caroline, Caitríona and Paula, brother Jimmy, sisters Eileen, Kathleen and Mary Ann.

Sadly missed by his loving family daughter-in-law, sons-inlaw, grandchild­ren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. His funeral Mass took place last Wednesday in All Saints Church Templetown with burial afterwards in the new cemetery Templetown. May he rest in peace.

PROGRESSIV­E 45

There was a tie for first place in the Progressiv­e 45 Card Game in Colclough Hall, Saltmills last Sunday night between Kathleen Cadogan, Mary Doran and Statia Finn and Pat Whelan, Maureen Eustace and Joan Fardy. In third place were John Joe Murphy, Margaret Cullen and Jimmy Cullen. The last game draw was won by Luke Power, Michael Kehoe and Billy Shannon. The raffle winners were Statia Finn, Mary Doran, Tom Culleton and Dermot Bassett.

YOGA CLASSES

New yoga class every Monday for four weeks beginning Monday, February 17, at 7 p.m. in St Mary’s Community Hall, Fethard. All levels welcome, €8 Drop-in class. Please bring your own mat. Contact Serena at 083 0723519 if you are interested in attending.

CREATIVE EXCHANGE

The Creative Exchange Group is changing its meeting day to Mondays beginning February 17. We have interestin­g opportunit­ies coming along so why not join us from 10 p.m. to 1 p.m. drop in session for those adults interested in arts and crafts practice. This group is hosted by your community group and kindly supported by Colclough Hall Committee.

COMMUNITY GROUP AGM.

Community Group AGM will be held in Colclough Hall on Friday, February 21, at 8 p.m. All welcome to attend, membership of the committee open to over-18s and we encourage anyone interested to come along that night.

WILD BIRD CROP

Any farmer in the Fethard area who is sowing wild bird crop under the GLAS scheme and wishes to avail of a limited quantity of seed through Fethard GPA please contact William Auld at 087 7912240.

WEEKLY LOTTO

There was no winner of last week’s Club lotto jackpot of €8,000. Next week’s jackpot stands at €8,100. The numbers drawn were 21, 24, 26 and 30. The club had one lucky-dip winner, James Murphy, who won €30.

AMERICAN TEA PARTY

Fethard Community Developmen­t Associatio­n (FCDA) will be holding an American Tea Party in St Mary’s Hall on Friday, February 28, at 8 p.m. We would love local people to host a table of 10. Alternativ­ely, come along and enjoy a great night with a lovely meal, music and a chat for €20. FCDA have been awarded a number of grants for which we need to raise matching funds of over €20,000.

All proceeds will go towards matching funds for the Castle Grounds and Village Walking Trails developmen­t. If you are interested in hosting a table or buying a ticket please contact 086 3401331.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMEN­T AGM

Fethard Community Developmen­t Associatio­n will hold its AGM on Friday, March 6, at 8 p.m. in St Mary’s Hall. An update on all activities undertaken by the associatio­n in 2019 will be provided. All welcome to attend.

POULFUR PARISH OFFICE

The Poulfur/Templetown Parochial Office has moved to the priest’s house in Booley Hill where it is manned by the parish secretary, Geraldine Chapman on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.30 to 12.30 each day.
