PRINCIPALS SEEK ADVICE FROM HSE OVER RECENT SCHOOL TRIPS TO ITALY

-

The principals of the Loreto and Presentation secondary schools in Wexford sought advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the HSE after students returned from skiing trips in Italy.

A group of 90 students and nine teachers from the Loreto flew out of Milan airport following a skiing trip in Lavarone which coincided with the outbreak of the coronavirus in parts of northern Italy.

The students were not required to take any measures as they were not coming from an affected area, according to the school principal Billy O’ Shea, who obtained advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the HSE.

‘As far as we know,it is not an issue for the school at all. The area where our students and staff stayed is unaffected by the coronavirus at this point in time. No further action is required to be taken by students or staff who travelled on the tour’, he said.

The Presentation principal William Ryan posted a notice on the school website, acknowledging that people were concerned about what consequences the trip may have regarding Covid 19.

He said the advice to date is if anyone is feeling unwell they should contact their doctor for medical advice. Meanwhile, a

Wexford parent raised concerns about a St. Martin’s GAA disco going ahead on Friday night last after students returned from Italy.

‘Maybe I’m being over the top but it would be a breathing ground for a virus. I wonder if the HSE hve given advice on these events and are the GAA aware of what procedure should be in place’, said Nuala Kennedy.
