Celtic music concert for New Ross

THE New Ross and District Pipe Band are once again returning to St. Michael’s Theatre with their very popular ‘Celtic Weave’ show on Saturday, March 28.

The band has performed the ‘Celtic Weave ‘show in many parts of the world, including the USA on three different occasions, London on two occasions, in Lorient, Fleurance and Colmar in France on many different occasions and at the Vatican Christmas Concert in 2000 and at the Kaunas Opera Festival in Lithuania in 2008.

The Celtic Weave show brings together the sound of the bagpipe and percussion with a mix of modern instrument­s including acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, piano and keyboards well as singers and dancers and traditiona­l Irish musical instrument­s such as the banjo, flute, tin whistle, bodhran, etc.

The music played is a mixture of Irish, Scottish, Breton and modern music and is delivered in a highly entertaini­ng and exciting configurat­ion.

This year’s ‘ Celtic Weave’ show will feature a number of guest artists including talented local singers Keith Flanagan and Kerri Campbell, as well as the popular Cumas Ceilí band.

Other instrument­alists include Paul Comiskey on acoustic guitar, Des O’Callaghan on electric guitar, Seamus Power on keyboards and drumkit, Adrian Dillon on piano and Arthur O’Sullivan on bass guitar.

Tickets for the show are available from St. Michael’s Theatre at €12 each.

A Polish author renowned for bringing joy to children through her stories and songs is visiting New Ross Library on Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m.

Ewa Chotomska will give a reading and storytime session in Polish only. Chotomska is a Polish writer, songwriter (children’s group FASOLKI) and kids TV programmes screenwrit­er. She is best known as ‘Ciotka Klotka’ from the famous TikTak kids TV programme, which was run for over 17 years.

Her songs ‘Szczotka, pasta’, ‘Mydo lubi zabaw’ and ‘Moja Fantazja’ are known to everyone in Poland.

In 2019, Chotomska became a laureate of the Order of

Smile, an internatio­nal medal awarded since 1968 for activities that bring joy to children.

Chotomska will be reading from her books and singing well known Polish songs for the children and their families.
