Our first outing of the year in New Ross Golf Club took place on Saturday, February 29. This was a race to beat storm Jorge! Results as follows.

First – Jason white, 35 points. Second – Noel Kendrick, 32 points. Count back – third Paddy Carney, 32 points. Category 1 – Frank Kennedy, 30 points. Category 2 – Shane Cummins, 29 points. Category 3 – Tom Furlong, 31 points. Front 9 – Noel Wall, 18 points. Back 9 – David Curtin, 14 points. Nearest the pin – Jason White. Visitor’s Prize – Lee Kennedy, 33 points.

Well done to all winners and thank you to New Ross Golf Club for their hospitalit­y. Best of luck for the coming year to our new captain Philip Wadding. Next outing is at Enniscorth­y Golf Club on Saturday, March 28 – visitors welcome

COMMUNITY GAMES

Well done to the two under-13 chess teams that took part in the county finals last week in Piercestow­n. Very well done to the following team who came third – Tiernan Crotty, Fiach Webber, Odhran Crotty, John Pitt, Harvey O’Brien and Charlie Banville. The other team was Frank Hussey, Darragh Goff, Cillian Buttimer, Oisin Murphy, Jack O’Sullivan, Chloe Goff and Fiachra Crotty.

A big thank you to Caroline Crotty, who organised the teams for the competitio­n.

GAA CLUB NEWS

The footballer­s were beaten by neighbours Adamstown in the Tommy Murphy Cup on Tuesday night. The men return to ACL action in Hurling at the weekend against Askamore on Saturday afternoon in Ballyroebu­ck at 4 p.m. The minor hurlers play St Anne’s in Rathangan on Sunday morning at 11.

The lotto jackpot wasn’t won last week, Sharon and Ellie Murphy from Growtown won the €200 as the only match-three winner. Please note that the next draw is on Wednesday, March 18, at 8.30. The jackpot will remain at €14,000 till we get a winner but the reserve jackpot will keep going up while we wait. It’s now up to €6,500.

Please encourage any family or friends living away from the area to support the draw through the online Taghmon-Camross page on the KlubFunder website. The deadline for online sales is at 6.30 on draw night and the minimum spend on the online system is €6. Tickets can also be bought from usual outlets.

Registrati­ons are being taken for 2020 membership­s. Anybody playing for the club must be a registered member. Please talk to any team manager or mentor or club official if you haven’t registered yet. Please note also that new members to the club is always very welcome.

CAMOGIE NOTES

Underage camogie registrati­on is taking place on Thursday, March 12, at 8.15 p.m. in Taghmon-Camross GAA Centre. All new members are welcome for our under-8, under-10, under-14, under-16 and minor teams.
