It’s Good 2 Talk to continue over phone

- By SIMON BOURKE

It’s Good 2 Talk will continue to provide services for its clients over the phone during the coronavirus outbreak.

However, it has announced that all face-to-face interactions have been discontinued until at least March 29.

‘We are still available by phone to the public who wish to contact us regarding future appointments and bookings,’ read a statement on the counselling service’s website.

And Centre Manager Frances Whelan said that, despite the level of uncertainty surrounding the spread of the virus, they hadn’t experienced an upsurge in calls.

‘There’s hasn’t been a surge in requests, not at the moment. But if people are concerned about the virus or have any queries, we’d advice them to contact their GP first.’

Frances believes the impact of COVID-19 on theirs and other counselling services may not be felt for some months.

‘In truth we might not see the impact of this for some time, it will only be further down the line that our services will be requested.

‘Financial stress is going to be a huge problem, people have mortgages to pay, bills. We’re going to see a knock-on effect in the coming months,’ she said.

And she reiterated the message that It’s Good 2 Talk will be there for those who need its services now and further down the line.

‘We offer bereavement services, treat anxiety and depression. If you contact the centre now you will be put on a waiting list to see a counsellor once we can do one-to-ones again.’
