Willie lived life to the full and had time for everyone

-

NEW ROSS lost one of its most lovable characters with the sad passing of the late Willie Reeves on May 10 after a short illness.

Willie was born on November 9, 1948, the only child of the late Jim and Molly Reeves.

Reared in the Irishtown before moving to JKL, Willie eventually settled down in Mount Carmel, places that he loved and had very fond memories of and great friends.

As a young lad, Willie spent a lot of time in the Ryan household in Michael Street where his mother Molly worked for years.

Willie met Breda Cashin in 1971. They married in 1974 and together had six children and also 14 grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

After leaving school, Willie served his time as a plasterer with the late Jim Ryan of the Irishtown, a person Willie highly respected and was great friends with. Willie was a gifted plasterer (in his own right) if only you could keep him on the job.

He was a member of the New Ross and District Pipe Band in the early years and was also a member of the FCA. Willie delighted in the pipe band’s success, especially in the last few years when they won the worlds. He loved traditional music and was also a keen bodhrán player.

Willie had a great passion for horses and dogs and down through the years he enjoyed following the hunt. A day Willie always looked forward to was the first day of the shooting season with his sons Trevor and Nicky.

A man who lived life to the full and was always up for the craic, he had time for everyone.

When people would come upon Willie they would be always greeted back with ‘How are you me aul flower?’

Willie loved socialising and could be found in any pub in the town or indeed Morrisseys of Cassagh. He was very popular with everyone and had a wide circle of friends.

The affection in which Willie was held in his home town was shown by the huge turn out that lined the streets and in the Irishtown as he made his final journey and it was only fitting that Willie had to pass Corcoran’s, one of his favourite pubs.

Willie was predeceased by his parents Jim and Molly and his son Martin.

He will be sorely missed by his loving wife Breda and children Josephine, Trevor, Lisa, Nicky, Jennifer, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Rest in peace Willie, me aul flower.
