WEXFORD

Golfers are hopeful that, all going well during this coming week, we may be able to recommence competitions from June 8.

Confirmation (depending on the coronavirus statistics) will be given towards the weekend.

If the decision is positive, golf clubs and their members will be happy to be getting one more step closer towards what was our normal routine at our clubs.

In anticipation of a positive decision, a competition timesheet is already set up for entries for a ladies’ and gents’ singles stableford, commencing on Monday, June 8, and continuing through Tuesday, June 9.

On Wednesday, June 10, there will be a gents’ singles 18-hole competition, and all these competitions will be three players at tee intervals of 13 minutes.

On Thursday we will have an 18-hole ladies’ competition, a three-person team event on Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday a gents’ 18-hole competition.

All names must be entered on the tee-time entry sheet.

Players should note any local rules posted but also note that you play by the rules of golf and apply all temporary rules along with club local rules.

Players enter their own scores on their scorecard. Get the marker to confirm verbally to you his/her correct score and then record the score on the side of your card.

At the end of the round, record the marker’s name clearly on this card, sign it, and ensure that the correct handicaps and date are recorded.

Under no circumstances may any player play more than once in each qualifying competition.

Before commencing, please familiarise yourself with all other information on the BRS system.

The above is different to the way things were done heretofore, but we will get used to it and hopefully, all things going well, we can progress further at the next stage.

Please keep your distance and keep safe. Speaking of changes, we will have another change coming in the near future, concerning a new cashless system of paying competition entry fees.

This called the ‘competition purse’ and will be based on a new debit card system.

This will reduce crowding and time spent in the Pro Shop, avoid unnecessary handling of cash, and help us to keep safer. Again, details are given on the BRS system.

Some members are unclear regarding the current use of our practise grounds, and the following should help.

The practice ground must be pre-booked for one hour by no more than two members. Only one player at a time may use either the long or the short practice area.

Players decide which is to use the longer practice ground first, and the other player uses the shorter area.

After 30 minutes, the players alternate practice areas or, if mutually agreed, they may spend the full hour on the practice area that they started on.

Finally, some great news for our club: there has been a steady influx of new members over the last two weeks.

We are delighted to welcome these new members and advise any other prospective applicants to contact our office for any information that they may require.
