Shielbaggan NS pupils’ tribute to selfless nurses

- By DAVID LOOBY

THE pupils of Scoil Naomh Úna, Shielbaggan have been working really hard over the past 14 weeks, including on a special project to thank the nurses of Ireland, especially those working in Wexford General Hospital and University Hospital Waterford.

Principal Patricia Foran said: ‘ To mark World Nurses Day, some of the children wrote letters to thank the nurses. May 12 was World Nurses Day.

The day was given a special focus in the media this year as the nurses are working so hard at the frontline during the pandemic. Some of our pupils wrote letters to the nurses as part of their work this week. Well done to each of you who wrote: you and your families are also doing a terrific job at home even though it’s difficult not seeing your friends.’

In his letter Rory Nolan wrote: ‘It must be hard to get up and go to work to battle a deadly pandemic but you do it. It must be hard knowing you are putting your family at risk by going to work but you do. We are so grateful for what you do. You have kept me, my family and my friends safe. Your countless efforts have saved the lives of many and for that we can never thank you enough. When this is all over it will be you who will be the ones who made the difference and you will go down in history for that.’

Nurses, doctors, nursing home staff were told they deserve gold awards for their efforts.

Jake Harris wrote the following: ‘I want to thank you so much for all the work you are doing to help us get through Coronavirus. You people are like superheroes. You put your lives on the line every single day just to help us: that makes you amazing. If I did get sick (I know) that you guys wouldn’t hesitate to help me straight way so I just want to say thank you.’
