And pride of place on the field of play went to the Naomh Eanna boys who brought Austin Stacks from Kerry to extra-time before losing the Division 1 decider on a 2-12 to 1-6 scoreline.

The two Division 4 shield titles stayed in the county, with the Volunteers boys and Bannow-Ballymitty girls defeating Carlow opponents Rathvilly and Tinryland in their respective finals.

And the Division 9 shield was captured by Our Lady’s Island/ St. Fintan’s, seeing off Derry Gaels from Wicklow in Ballinakil­l on a 3-9 to 1-3 scoreline.

YOUTHS ON TOP: Danny Furlong fired Wexford Youths to the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division with a winner two minutes into added time against Cabinteely in Stradbrook on June 26, 2015.

Shane Keegan’s men were just three additional minutes away from their first draw of the campaign when the attacking ace met Andy Mulligan’s low cross at the near post to poke the winner into the roof of the net, sealing success on a 3-2 scoreline.

SICKENER FOR NOLAN: Adam Nolan described his split decision loss to Britain’s Josh Kelly in the inaugural European Games in Baku as ‘sickening’.

BRIDGE GIRLS BEST: Castlebrid­ge did more than enough damage in the first-half of the Allianz Rackard League Roinn ‘B’ camogie final in Wexford Park, eventually getting the verdict over Piercestow­n by 5-3 to 1-4.

And a classy Kilrush outfit were the clear masters in the Roinn ‘ C’ decider, accounting for Ramsgrange on an 8-5 to 1-0 scoreline.

PHIL’S A FLYER: Phil Healy from Bandon in Cork competed as a guest in the Senior women’s sprint at the Mr Oil track and field championsh­ips in the Sports Hub in Enniscorth­y.

The national 100m joint champion, fresh from the European team championsh­ips, where she competed for the highest-ever placed Ireland outfit, won the 100m and 200m races.

Chloe Whelan (Menapians), Shannon Wall (Adamstown) and Jane Shovlin (Menapians) were the top three Wexford finishers in the 100m, while the medals in the 200m were taken by Sophie McCabe (Bree), Katie Daly (Kilmore) and Wall once again.

SMASH AND GRAB: A lastgasp Jamie Carty goal saw Wexford come from behind to pip Meath by a point (1-10 to 0-12) in the Leinster Junior football championsh­ip final held in Innovate Wexford Park.

It was the county’s first provincial title in eight years, with goalkeeper Anthony Masterson captaining the side to a dramatic success.
