Back to school one last time for Ramsgrange NS 6th class pupils

- By DAVID LOOBY

TUESDAY, June 30, marked the official end of primary education for the nine 6th Class pupils of Ramsgrange NS who were thrilled to mark the occasion together with a physical, not virtual, graduation.

With phase 3 of the country’s reopening having begun on Monday week last, principal Lorraine Kennedy decided to organise a graduation ceremony for the children. She said: ‘I felt it was hugely important that they come together one last time and celebrate the achievements and milestones reached during their time in Ramsgrange NS. There was great excitement as they all met each other as a group for the first time since March 12.’

Their teacher, Ms Morrissey, had some lovely comments about each child and expressed her sadness at not being able to finish out the year properly with them. She wished them all the very best for secondary school and the future and told them all how proud she was of them.

The children were presented with their graduation certificates, plus some fun ‘Most Likely to Become ...’ certs which were received with great amusement!

The Parents Association also paid for a ‘Class of 2020’ hoodie for each child, thanks to New Ross Sign Centre.

Former treasurer of the PA, Emma Fitzgerald, whose son Vincent was graduating, thanked the teachers for the work that they did with all the children, and also emphasised how happy her own child had been during his time in Ramsgrange NS.

She also praised and thanked Ms Kennedy for organising a ‘physical graduation’ as opposed to a ‘virtual graduation’.

Other parents said how happy they were that the graduation took place but also how sad they were as it was all over now.

Ms Kennedy was delighted all the children were in attendance for the graduation. She spoke about how they were now a part of history and would be remembered as the class that never got to finish primary school. Ms Kennedy was hopeful that having this small ceremony would provide the children with a sense of closure before the next chapter of their education.

‘Sixth Class of 2020 will always be special and they are wished the utmost success in all their future endeavours,’ she said.
