Holders Shelmalier will host Adamstown in first of three ties

CHAMPIONS SHELMALIER will begin the Senior ladies’ football championsh­ip campaign with a clash against Adamstown on July 17.

The Hollymount-based side will make the short trip to Ballymurn eleven days later before rounding out the group stages at Clonee.

The Gorey District team, keen to put down a marker early in the campaign, will open with a home tie against Crossabeg-Ballymurn before travelling to Adamstown in their second encounter.

In Group B, newly-promoted Clongeen get their slate under way with a trip to Wexford town to face Clonard/Volunteers.

They will host Dunbrody Gaels on July 28 before rounding out the group stages at Rathangan.

Last year’s runners-up, St. Anne’s, start their championsh­ip season with a visit to the Ross District and a game with Dunbrody Gaels on July 17. They travel to Clonard/Volunteers eleven days later.

Intermedia­te runners-up in 2019, St. Martin’s, are placed in the North group and will have a bit of travelling to do to get themselves in the best position to go one better this season.

They will whizz up to Ballygarre­tt to open their campaign.

They will be in Piercestow­n and hosting HWH-Bunclody in their second tie before another long spin to Kilanerin follows in week three.

Kilanerin host HWH-Bunclody in their opening fixture on July 17 and travel across to Ballygarre­tt for their second game eleven days later.

Three teams will compete in the South group after Fethard’s withdrawal.

Taghmon-Camross host Gusserane on the opening weekend before the latter welcome Kilmore on July 28.

Kilmore will be at home for their second game, against Taghmon-Camross on August 1.

Eight teams will compete for the Junior ‘A’ title. In Group A, Baile Dubh Tíre and Clonee ‘B’ face each other in the opening fixture, while Davidstown-Courtnacud­dy also travel to Castletown on July 19.

In Group B, St. Fintan’s go to Ballyhogue and Shelmalier ‘B’ host Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n.

St. Brigid’s (Blackwater) face Starlights and Kilanerin ‘B’ host Shamrocks on the opening weekend in Junior ‘B’ Group A.

Six teams will fight for the two semi-final spots in Group B, and on July 19 Clonard/Volunteers ‘B’ face Clongeen ‘B’, Bannow-Ballymitty welcome Sarsfields, and Glynn-Barntown travel to Dunbrody Gaels ‘B’.

Finals for all ladies’ football competitio­ns will take place on the weekend of September 12/13.
