Hope for VillagePod payments app to expand into local towns
TOWNS like Gorey, Enniscorthy and New Ross have been shortlisted for the new shop local payment solution VillagePod.
The payment platform app has integrated local marketing features to enable small businesses to attract and retain customers.
Launched in Wicklow late last year, the app has been piloted in Bray and Greystones and business owners can take contactless payment through a mobile or tablet without set-up fees or standing charges.
VillagePod is simple to use and easy to initiate, with rewards programmes integrated to social media tie-in tools for digital marketing purposes.
Since its launch, it is emerging as a key tool for small businesses to signal to their customers that they intend to make shopping local a safe and rewarding experience.
With the backing of the Local Enterprise Offices operating under the EU Payment Services Directive, the company has made a proposal to Wexford County Council to secure funding for a rollout of the shop local platform. This comes under the Government’s recently announced Town and Village Renewal Scheme for Covid-19 response measures.
The team estimate that if we all spent €20 a week in small businesses over the next three months, it could boost the local economy by up to €875 million.
It is hoped that VillagePod will help both the local community and economy to thrive in that the digital payments, gifting and rewards solutions will help retailers to attract shoppers back in store and keep them coming back.
A spokesperson for VillagePod said that the team have been greatly encouraged by the interest in the platform coming from local businesses and towns and would love to be in position to roll out in Wexford.
Business owners, local town committees and business community groups are encouraged to contact the VillagePod team to ensure that their town is prioritised for the full rollout and marketing support as part of the nationwide expansion.
