ZOOM TO WRITE WORKSHOP

Ready, Steady, Write is the title of the next Write by the Sea Literary Festival’s Zoom to Write Workshop, facilitated online by award – nominated novelist and scriptwriter Cat Hogan via Zoom on Saturday, July 18 (10 a.m. to midday). The workshop will focus on three elements of the writing process: distilling ideas, breathing life into your characters and doing research and how to apply them in a practical and effective way to your own work. Cat is a seasoned facilitator and author, with two successful novels to her name. Her third book is due for publication very soon. To book a place on the ‘Ready, Steady, Write’ Zoom workshop, go to writebythesea.ie.

LEO CARTHY WEEKEND

It is with significant regret that we have to announce the cancellation of this year’s annual Leo Carthy Weekend. Given the challenging times we now find ourselves living in, the committee has made this decision in the interests of public safety. The festival has gone from strength to strength each year and has raised significant funds for local and national voluntary organisations and groups to support the invaluable work they do. While these funds will be needed now more than ever, we could not put the health of our local community and surrounding areas at risk to do so, particularly when the festival is in memory of a man who gave his whole life to supporting his community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the artists, volunteers, generous sponsors and those who attend the festival each year for their support. We would ask where possible to continue to support these local businesses who have been so generous to us over the years. We may organise a fundraising event later in the year as restrictions ease and will be back with a bang on the August bank holiday weekend in 2021.

In the meantime, stay safe and well.

BEREAVEMENT

We were all very sorry to learn of the sudden death of Noel O’Connor of Bettystown and formerly of Rosslare Harbour. Noel, a retired Garda Sergeant, died on July 2. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, including his brothers Norbert and Timmy, who live in Rosslare Harbour. Noel was predeceased by his brother Paud and his sister Maura. May he rest in peace.
